IoT Nudging: Design Sustainable Behavioral Change through Context-Aware IoT Devices

Nudges, which subtly guide people towards desired behaviors without coercion, are expected to have wide applications across various fields. However, existing nudge methods often suffer from being static and patterned, limited to specific situations, and thus struggle to sustain their effects. This project aims to create next-generation nudges that continuously produce effects by recognizing the fine behavioral contexts of individuals through the interconnection and interaction of various IoT devices present in their living environments, intervening continuously at the right times and through the right means.

Exploring IoT as a 'Mirror for Human Reflection' in Daily Life

We are designing new interactions between people and IoT, aiming for a future society where people's actions are reflected in IoT expressions, and these expressions guide their behaviors in better directions.。

IoT Data-driven Nudging Model with Self-reflection Loop toward Health Behavior Change

Examples: IoT Nudging System Based on Context Reframing

Humans are stubborn creatures and do not easily follow direct interventions by machines. We overcome this challenge by "reframing" the target behavior into a different context. Focusing on "analogies," we design behavioral change as a form of play, leveraging the reframed context to enhance "enjoyment" and promote "spontaneous behavioral change."
